The Office Committee
Learn about the Office Committee
What We Do
The Office Committee takes responsibility for overseeing the regular operations of our office at 140 NE 3rd Ave in downtown Hillsboro. We arrange for the office to be staffed from 10 am – 4 pm Mondays through Fridays and 10 am – 2 pm on Saturdays, with extended hours during critical campaign seasons. We provide a space for our committees and caucuses to meet, and even act as a temporary home base for some local campaigns.
Who We Are
As office volunteers, we are diverse in age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and experience. We are people who like to talk about politics, and who like to help people. We act as the first point of contact for members of the public to engage with the Washington County Democrats–whether in person, by phone or by email. We choose to spend our free time helping our fellow Democrats get registered to vote, learn about local campaigns, become effective Democratic activists, and more. We help complete administrative tasks as needed by the Washington County Dems’ officers and committee chairs. From day to day, you might find us making campaign buttons, assisting with data entry, selling promotional items, phone banking, or booking office space for a community group.
What We Look For
We look for volunteers that can reliably come to our office to fill one 3- or 4-hour shift per week, or who have open schedules that would allow them to fill in when other volunteers can’t make their shift. Our volunteers typically have good customer service skills including the ability to be open and friendly toward strangers, both in person and on the phone. Our volunteers can handle simple computer tasks such as using Microsoft Office programs or replying to emails–or they’re willing to learn!
