The East WashCo Dems October 1st Meeting

Map of East Washington County, with text reading East Washington County Democrats, First Thursday monthly meetings--Join us on Zoom!

As we continue to be bombarded with news of the dysfunction in DC, East Washington County Dems has always focused on the state and local policies and politics that affect our everyday lives.  This month on October 1 at 7 pm on zoom we will hear from Representative Jules Walters who represents us in HD 37 – including Tualatin, Durham, parts of Rivergrove and unincorporated Washington County as well as a larger district in Clackamas County.  One of the biggest challenges facing our state today is finding ways to fund the many needs of Oregonians.  Rep Walters can talk about this from her role as vice chair of the House Interim Committee on Revenue.  Is our tax structure working for all Oregonians?  Should we Kick the Kicker?  What can we expect will happen in the next session coming up in early 2027?

Jules also plays an important role in speaking up for the rights of all or us and has been a champion for justice for LGBTQIA+ Oregonians. As chair of the House Interim Committee on Early Childhood, she has addressed issues in her committee around early childhood education and child care deserts in Oregon.  She has taken strong stands on the impact of transportation construction and tolling decisions on her constituents. This should be a good conversation.  Please join us on zoom with your questions and advocacy.

We will also hear from Clara Gillet, DPO Regional Field Director for Washington County who is running the coordinated campaign in our county. This is the campaign to elect Tina Kotek, Jeff Merkley and either Andrea Salinas or Suzanne Bonamici, depending on whether you are in CD6 or CD1.  Representatives of We the People will give us an update on plans for the October 17th event – the next No Kings rally that will emphasize the need for early voting.  This is a good chance to find ways to get involved in this important election.
And thanks to all those who have signed up to be Neighborhood Leaders.  This is the most powerful thing we can do this election to preserve the things we care about.  If you want to learn more or sign up go to https://washcodems.org/neighborhood-leader/.  If you are already doing this, invite a friend to join you.

As always, all are welcome to join us for community, respectful conversation and learning. I will send out a recording and summary after the meeting.

With hope and solidarity,
