It’s another Summer of HCAO, as our volunteers leaders all around the state continue to spread awareness about Oregon’s unique position for universal healthcare reform. Our Chapters have been building coalitions, creating petitions, meeting with elected officials, and discussing this opportunity with Oregonians like you. We’d love to see you soon at an upcoming event, training, or direct action. |

HCAO & Oregon Universal Healthcare featured in a national rural journal |
A Tale of Two Behavioral Health Systems or How the State Border Determines Who Gets Access to Mental Healthcare. By Astra Lincoln for the Daily Yonder Rural Americans’ access to behavioral health care is dwindling under OBBBA cuts. In the Oregon-Idaho border area, how bad it will get depends on which side of the border a person lives on. “For Oregon’s rural clinics, which have historically been less likely to withstand unstable funding environments, the plan could have a “stabilizing effect,” said the advocacy nonprofit Health Care for All Oregon (HCAO) President Valdez Bravo, who works in health care administration.” |

| Medicare’s Birthday: July 30th |
Several Health Care for All Oregon Chapters participated in the National Nurses United (NNU) nationwide Medicare for All Day of Action on July 30th, Medicare’s Birthday. HCAO Staff and Chapter leaders met with Oregon Congress-people or their staff across the state, including the offices of Congresswomen Maxine Dexter’s, Suzanne Bonamici and Val Hoyle. We delivered NNU’s open letter: Dream Bigger, Be Effective. Now is the Time for Medicare for All If we do not inspire, energize and organize the largest grassroots movement in history—including the multiracial working class, everyday Americans and everyone else hurt by our broken health care system—by demanding real material changes like Medicare for All, then we risk losing millions more people to the false promises of authoritarians and their corporate allies. |

Website Upgrade: Explore the site |
HCAO.org, our website, has finally gotten a long-awaited refresh. HCAO’s work is complicated and confusing because it is at the intersection of healthcare and politics. It’s hard to know how to describe all the moving parts, but this much-improved website is a great way to educate and inform Oregonians about this work. Go check out the amazing work of Portland-area volunteer Cary Anderson. Cary, HCAO Staff and a few other volunteer helpers have taken our website to the next level. Learn more at the links below: |
