Washington County Commission Needs Your Help!
Community turnout alert: We need community members to join the Washington County Commission’s Tuesday work sessions! The Tuesday business meetings are open to public comment, so that we can hear from the community. However, recently there has been an organized effort from right-wing groups to turn out and dominate the public comment sessions. This includes a group called Truth In Elections which deals in election-related conspiracy theories. Please join our Tuesday business sessions so that we can restore balance to the public comments!
Our upcoming business meetings are on
- Tuesday October 22, Board of Commissioners meeting in the evening at 6:30pm
- Tuesday November 5, Board of Commissioners meeting starts after the Housing Authority Board of Directors, usually between 10am and 10:30am pending the Housing Authority agenda.
The meeting portal is directly available at https://washingtoncounty.civicweb.net/Portal/
(I find it by going to the County website, http://WashingtonCountyOR.Gov , then on the topic menu, pick Government, then from the drop-down menu pick “Board of Commissioners, then on that new webpage, scroll down to the big blue button ‘Board of County Commissioners Agendas & Minutes’, That takes you to the portal which offers all BCC meeting packets and logistical information.
Our business meetings have two public comment periods. At the start of the meeting, we have public comment for 2 minutes per person, for a time certain max of 10 minutes total, followed by county business. Then near the end of the meeting, after all business we have a second public comment period for up to 5 minutes per person, for a time certain max of 30 minutes total.
Wondering how testimony works?
On the portal page ( https://washingtoncounty.civicweb.net/Portal/ ) if you pick the ‘Meetings Tab’ you will find links to signup for comment timeslots (testimony) in advance of the meeting, as well as ‘testimony procedures.’ Our Board Clerk, Kevin Moss, is very helpful and I have included him on this email should you have questions. Please do let him know directly.
If you would like to see this group in action, please feel free to watch the video from the Tuesday October 1st meeting, available right from the portal page. Just pick the October 1, 2024 Board of Commissioners meeting. Then you will get the screen (sample below.) From that page, just click on the video button.
From that split screen you can then click on the blue video cameras to go right to the video section you want, such as B. Public Communications or H.
PUBLIC COMMUNICATION (5-MINUTE OPPORTUNITY)
