If you are unable to attend a meeting please notify both your county delegation chair and our CD-1 Secretary (Connie Chen – cchen2511@gmail.com) so that we can ensure your county is fully represented.
After reviewing the survey results and our discussion at last Saturday’s Central Committee meeting, the consensus was that our official “regular” quarterly Central Committee meetings for 2023 and 2024 should be:
- Predictable and scheduled as far in advance as possible.
- Virtual to maximize participation and accessibility.
- Not conflict with standing meeting times for our county parties.
- Be held at 7 pm on a weekday other than Fridays (while a significant number of people preferred weekend meetings, there was no consensus on the best time to hold virtual weekend meetings).
- Be supplemented by unofficial in-person meetings, particularly when they can be held outdoors and/or coincide with other events held by the DPO, county parties, or Representative Bonamici.
Accordingly, after consulting with the counties in the 1st CD on their pre-existing meeting times, the 1st CD’s official “regular” quarterly Central Committee meetings in 2023 and 2024 will be held on the second Monday night of the second month in every calendar quarter at 7 pm. I considered both the 1st and 2nd Mondays of each month of each quarter, and the second Monday of the second month of every quarter presented the fewest possible conflicts (i.e. no conflicts with New Year’s day, election eve, the 4th of July, Indigenous People’s Day, Thanksgiving, and all the holidays in December).
We want to thank Representative Bonamici and her Campaign Manager, Ellie Zuckerman, for attending our first quarterly Central Committee meeting, for updating us on what is going on in DC, and for staying to answer every question committee members had.
Two highlights from the March 11 meeting:
1. In conjunction with SCC delegates who live in CD-1 we elected the following people to fill CD-1 vacancies on the DPO’s Standing Committees:
- Budget Committee – Nhedti Colquitt of Washington County – Alternate
- Platform & Resolutions Committee – Joe Whittington of Washington County – Delegate
- Credentials Committee – Tim Borman of Tillamook County – Delegate
- Events & State Fair Committee – Teressa Ross of Columbia County – Delegate
2. Notice was given that bylaw amendments will be proposed at the next “regular” quarterly Central Committee meeting on May 5, 2023 and in accordance with Section 4 of Article XII of our bylaws the text of the proposed changes will be circulated to all CD-1 Delegates and Alternates by April 8. A Rules Committee of seven volunteers (Stephanie Vardavas, Kyle Martin, Cindy Smith, JJ Jackson, Tim Borman, Mary Rarick, and Teressa Ross) will draft the proposed changes. Stephanie Vardavas, who gave the notice, will chair the Rules Committee which will meet virtually as soon as possible.
Finally, thanks for all you do to keep CD-1 Blue, and please be sure to “whitelist” the email address: DPOcd1Chair@gmail.com to ensure that meeting information is not diverted to your spam folder.
