2022 Candidate Training Video

Presented by the WashCo Dems Endorsements Committee

Have you been thinking about running for office, but you feel overwhelmed by all of the tasks? Not sure where to start?

Maybe you just threw your hat in the ring, and now you’re wondering, what’s next? What do I do first? What are the most important things I need to get done right away?

We provide an overview of the process for prospective candidates who may be interested in running.

Not everyone who wants to run for office has had the benefit of receiving formal training but this should not discourage good candidates from running! Many candidates, especially people of color, may face additional obstacles to running that must be overcome. The unknowns of how to run a campaign can feel overwhelming and may discourage you from throwing your hat in the ring. Campaign manager Justin Low goes over many of these topics to help you get oriented in on your way. Justin Low is a former campaign manager and legislative staffer who has worked at the local and state levels

In this video you will get an overview of a candidate timeline

Topics include:

  • Things to think about when you are considering running for office
  • Conversations you will want to have with friends and family
  • How to get started: filing for your candidacy
  • Understanding endorsements and the endorsements process

Topics we hope to cover in the future:

Fundraising, volunteers, and canvassing and phone calls.

We’re excited to share this video with you as it will provide a good starting place to understand the management that goes into running your campaign!
