A classroom of empty desks with a map on the wall[POSTPONED] School Board Forum

Hosted by the WashCo Dems CD-1 Delegation

School board meetings have become contentious in the last year, and not in small part to a national coordinated effort by the GOP, focusing on myths and fears drummed up around masks, vaccines, and CRT.

Learn what’s going on and what you can do!

The CD-1 delegation will be hosting a forum focusing on school boards on Tuesday, Nov. 30th, 7-8:15pm.

Topics include:

  • how to get involved and give input
  • how to have an impact on education decisions, and
  • why the functions of school boards are so important for the whole community.

We are fortunate to have some very experienced local panelists speaking:

  • Ben Bowman, chair of the Tigard Tualatin School District board;
  • Brandy Penner, Newberg School District board member;
  • Michelle Depass, chair of the Portland Public Schools school board; and
  • Carol Greenough, retired educator, co-chair of the Washington Co. Ed Caucus, and chair of the East Washington Co. Democrats.

One or two students are also expected to be on the panel.

This will be a very interactive event, with a short presentation from each panelist followed by time for questions and discussion.

All PCPs in CD-1 are invited to attend along with other interested Dems and those concerned about the challenges schools and school boards are facing.

Panel will speak for first 30 minutes, then Q and A and discussion.
