Values in Action Newsletter | April 2019

Update from the Chair

Hello Fellow Democrats! We are going into the fourth month of the 2019 state legislative session.  One of the things I hear most as I talk with all of you is the importance of raising needed revenue to fund education.  I am making that point loud and clear when I meet with our elected officials.  We must fully fund education to fund the future of Oregon! Another key priority near to my heart is reducing the influence of big money in politics.  Trust in our democracy depends on the people of Oregon being certain that their elected officials are not unduly influenced by corporate contributions or by a few wealthy mega-donors.  I’m excited to report that the legislature is considering several good campaign finance reform proposals this session! In the month ahead let’s make an effort to continue contacting our state legislators and also continue supporting our local candidates in the May elections.  If we keep active in those two areas, we will have a meaningful impact on the policies that shape the world we live in! Until next time, Patrick Maguire Chair, Washington County Democrats
