Washington County Democrats have some fun in the sun!
We are excited to announce that over 100 people enjoyed the WashCo Dems Summer Picnic Fundraiser on Saturday, July 21st. On a beautiful sunny day at Rood Bridge, the energetic crowd was delighted with the food prepared by Maggie’s Buns of Forest Grove.
Dedicated WashCo Dems volunteers planned and organized fun activities
…including Pin the Subpoena on the Elephant, featuring “Mueller Subpoenas” that blindfolded guests got to pin to a 3′ x 5′ GOP Elephant. Sno-cones on a hot day were soothing and delicious.
The crowd was entertained by The Revolution Choir, an energetic group of young people singing original compositions of songs about politics.
The Silent Auction featured unique items such as an Airplane Ride, Governor Brown-sponsored Celebration Baskets, and a Cider-making Experience for 2.
The highlight of the event was the WashCo Dems Famous Pie Auction with dedicated volunteers and elected officials donating pies. Elected officials gave their best 30-second campaign speech to entice picnic-goers to buy a pie. Pie-making is officially no longer women’s work! Five of the 17 pies donated were made by men!
The 2018 Pie Auction will long be remembered for the mysteriously disappearing slice from Representative Margaret Doherty’s Cocoa Rum Pecan Pie, discovered before it was sold to Kathryn Harrington, candidate for County Commission Chair. The guilty diner will remain unknown, but did provide a delightful bit of humor to the event!
The Washington County Democrats hold this lively event every year to raise money for our office and our outreach efforts.
Paddle Raises at the event help us to continue the very effective Neighborhood Leader Program, our primary effort to educate voters and get out the vote.
Thank you to all who attended and donated. We could not do it without you!
